I did the same as the first poster. Played in early beta than played way later. Today to be exact. Here's my experience:
It was absolutely terribly made in the beginning. Was very difficult to shoot and actually land hits. Being a new player, especially, made things very hard because I had no skill training compared to others and didn't have expensive and amazing dropsuits. I basically quit the game in frustration as I found it unplayable. (Keep in mind I've been playing FPS' of many kinds since I was 6 and never found a game to be this unplayable, even poorly made flash games, in all honesty))
So I figured that with the game being close to open beta, it'd be worth trying again. Maybe they made it better and more enjoyable. This is what happened:
Played a couple games of Ambush. Essentially Ambush is a game of "pray you don't spawn in their crosshairs". Half the time I was dead within five seconds of spawn, being shot from behind immediately. The other half of the time, I was dying because almost every enemy was a gatling-gun toting dude with insanely heavy armor that utterly laughs at grenades and normal bullets.
I switched over to Skirmish, since I had originally found it more enjoyable in the past. Turned out Skirmish was pretty much just as frustrating, if not more. Majority of enemies had very heavy armor and gatling guns, and those that didn't had very high level dropsuits and accuracy that just blew me away, considering I could barely even get the sights to land on somebody, even at the lowest sensitivity settings.
After playing two games of each mode, I turned off the PS3 in absolute frustration and went back to my computer.
In my opinion, DUST 514 is absolutely hostile to new players, and is totally unenjoyable. I didn't like ANYTHING about the game at all. I had high hopes for the game but so far its just utterly horrid to play. I will not be putting a single penny to this game when its released.
If your a new player to the game, and others have been playing for awhile, the first few weeks are just going to be a nightmare. I can see the game becoming fun once you have a lot of skill training and can afford awesome gear, but the first few weeks just seem like they'd be terrible. |
